Back to life, back to reality.

I had fun in the woods, but then it was time to come home and prepare for FanExpo Boston.  I had fun at FanExpo Boston, despite conventions being “work weekends” for me and doing the show all by myself, but then it was time to get back into the usual routine.  At least until DragonCon at the end of this month.

Getting back into the swing of your old routine is hard, especially after a summer vacation.  I hadn’t taken a vacation in a year’s time, so I’d forgotten what it was like to have to switch gears.  Some things came back with a stumble, like sitting down to write and work on scripts.  Some things came back naturally, like playing with my son while I watch him during the day.  Thanks to my vacation, I had more energy to play with him!  And good thing, too, because most of my day was spent running around in a circle chasing invisible spaceships over our heads.  Toddler games, man.

As difficult as returning to a routine may be, I’m glad to be home.  As much as I like the occasional getaway, I’m a homebody at heart and I like being in my home.  I come to miss it, my cats, and my son (when he’s not with us, that is).  I’m sad to see vacations go but I’m glad to be back in my familiar surroundings, doing familiar things and going back to familiar places.

It’s a much-needed recharge for when I’m ready to head off on my next adventure.
