Bad karma, so to speak.

I no longer believe in the concept of bad karma.

Okay, so I’m not really talking about “karma” in the actual translation of the word, but rather the idea that bad people who do bad things will get what’s coming to them.  Not in the next life or some other spiritual sense but in our immediate physical world, so maybe you get to have a front row seat to see it happen.  I know “bad karma” isn’t the right term for what I’m talking about, but for the purposes of today’s blog we’ll just call it that.

As I was saying, I no longer believe in bad karma.  In the news and in my personal life, I’ve failed to see any examples of it.  Too many horrible people get away with too many horrible things; from corrupt politicians and brutal tyrants escaping justice, to people who have hurt me not only facing zero consequences, but getting elevated and celebrated.  Bad karma doesn’t exist.  You don’t get a guaranteed front row seat to see justice done.  Bad shit just happens, and bad people sometimes win.

However, I still believe in good karma.  I honestly believe that the love you give returns as love received, though not always in ways you expect.  I’ve seen it time and time again in my personal life, from the friends in my social circles to those of you who have reached out to me during the course of my webcomic career.  Give without expectation and that love will return in unexpected ways.

The good you do is the good that comes back to you, so I choose to focus on that as best I can.
