The temptation to get political.

The news has certainly been eventful lately, from hurricanes to mass shootings.  I’ve wanted to comment on these things, and the reactions of certain politicians to them, but I’ve held my tongue because there’s been enough commentary on social media feeds and news programs.  It’s enough to make your head spin.  So I decided to keep quiet on politics around here, so we could be an escape from the endless avalanche of opinion pieces and outrage blogs.  Star Power is a webcomic about sci-fi space adventure, not a platform for me to spout my political leanings and opinions.

But dammit, it’s getting harder and harder to resist the temptation to voice my outrage here in the blog section as I see more and more people suffering and dying from both natural and unnatural disasters.

What good would it do, though, besides to make me feel better?  What purpose would it serve for me to put my outrage in a blog on the internet where it would join the endless choir of anger?  Maybe it would serve as a reminder to folks who’ve followed my work over the years where I stand on the political spectrum, though if you’ve been reading my comics since 2002 you ought to know exactly what my “politics” are.  I’m more vocal about this stuff on my Facebook page and Twitter feed, because those are my personal social media feeds and not the official blog section of the comic.  I try to keep the two separate, though I realize it’s hard to separate the creator from their work these days.

For now, I’ll remain quiet about politics and current events here in the Star Power blog section because that’s probably not what you’re here for.  I’ll continue to rant on my personal feeds when the mood strikes me, so be warned that if you follow me on Facebook or Twitter you may see my opinions on current events.  But here, in our corner of the internet, we’ll continue to create a world you’ll want to escape to, not from.
